Job summary

Benshaw is seeking a committed machine operator to support our Pittsburgh, PA facility. You will work with NC/CNC machines, set up operations, read blueprints, and perform quality checks on parts to meet exacting tolerances.

Responsibilities include operating mills, lathes, and other equipment, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with teammates to hit daily production targets while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
• Experience as a machine operator in manufacturing or industrial setting is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.
• Comfort with basic measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).

Job hours and location:

Shift hours 6am-2:30pm (overtime as needed in evenings & weekends) Benshaw, 615 Alpha Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238

Position Overview:

Work includes various routine and semi-routine assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manuals, NC and CNC machine shop equipment. Under general supervision, works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production od machine parts, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal, and other materials, to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May need to identify and repair minor machine malfunctions/ Troubleshooting.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manufacture and inspects detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings and verbal instructions using a variety of machining tools and equipment (mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, jig bores and other machining equipment) and using mat.
• Set up and operate machinery, tools, and equipment according to established procedures and production schedules.
• Monitor machine performance during operations, making necessary adjustments to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Perform inspections of finished products to confirm compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Complete required production documentation, including work orders, inspection logs, and equipment checklists.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and report any equipment issues to supervisors or maintenance staff.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production targets.
• Cross-train in multiple areas of the manufacturing process to provide flexibility and support to the team.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
• Previous experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Basic math skills and ability to use measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
• Ability to work independently to complete milestones.
• Demonstrated ability to meet quality and productivity standards within team.
• Good time-management skills and ability to set priorities.
• Availability and willingness to work hours as needed to meet critical deadlines.
• Strong commitment to quality, safety, customer service and teamwork.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Technical/trade school
• Ability to make decisions or suggestions for improving machine run times, or better-quality part production, based on rules or procedures.
• Experienced situations in which prior job knowledge with similar problems has shown which choice is most appropriate, selecting from known alternatives.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods, up to 8 or more hours per shift, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and repetitive use of the hands and arms to perform job duties.
• Must be able to use hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing equipment safely and effectively.
• Requires sufficient visual acuity to inspect parts, read work instructions, and perform quality checks.
• Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures, and other industrial conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
