Job description

Allied Sales & Service is looking for a Machinist to join our team in LaPlace, LA.

As a Machinist, you will set up and operate a variety of manual machines to repair parts for industrial pumps, gearboxes, and mechanical seals. You will also be responsible for training to perform the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of industrial pumps and gearboxes. This person will act as the shop specialist in line-boring on the horizontal mill.

What You’ll Do:

• Deck and bore multistage pump casing repair work utilizing specialty equipment for line boring.
• Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, and knee mills.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, machines, and materials onto machines.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
• Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
• Fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on shop equipment; troubleshoot and repair as needed.
• Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Other duties may be assigned.

What You’ll Need:

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 10+ years of experience operating manual machines (i.e. lathes, boring mills) required.
• 10+ years of experience operating a horizontal mill for line-boring is required.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments such as: calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
• Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals.
