Job summary

Cook in Jeffersonville, IN is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders to manufacture metal or plastic parts. You will select tools, adjust speeds and feeds, and inspect first articles.

You will read prints, verify tolerances with GD&T, perform in-process inspections, and ensure parts meet specifications using measuring devices. Mazak and HAAS machines are commonly used.

What does a CNC Machinist do here at Cook?

A Machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine plastic or metal work pieces using HAAS, MAZAK and other name brand machines. Machinists will be able to work to exacting tolerances, determine speeds and feeds to produce quality products. Must be able to visualize finished product, recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. May also function as final inspector for finished manufactured products.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and specifications for parts.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
• Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
• Selects the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to be used on machines.
• Examines and measures completed units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors.
• Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.
• Operates fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes. Mostly on Mazak and HAAS equipment.
• Ensures proper machine set up and accurate interpretation of prints and specifications to prevent damage to material. Detects errors with frequent tolerance/quality checks.

Minimum Required Qualifications
