Job summary

Cook is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to set up and operate manual and CNC tools and produce precise metal or plastic parts. You will interpret blueprints, determine speeds and feeds, and verify tolerances to deliver quality components.

The role emphasizes accuracy, inspection, and readiness to work with Mazak/HAAS machines. Ideal candidates have experience in manufacturing, strong math skills, and the ability to read plans and apply GD&T.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches.
• Performs machine set ups for close tolerances and proper fitting/alignments.
• Obtains inspections on first pieces and in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
• Selects cutting tools, attachments, and materials for use on machines.
• Examines finished units to ensure conformance and adjusts controls to resolve deviations.
• Uses geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as called out on prints.
• Operates Mazak and HAAS equipment to produce parts.
• Ensures proper setup and interpretation to prevent material damage.

What does a CNC Machinist do here at Cook?

A Machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine plastic or metal work pieces using HAAS, MAZAK and other name brand machines. Machinists will be able to work to exacting tolerances, determine speeds and feeds to produce quality products. Must be able to visualize finished product, recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. May also function as final inspector for finished manufactured products.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and specifications for parts.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
• Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
• Selects the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to be used on machines.
• Examines and measures completed units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors.
• Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.
• Operates fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes. Mostly on Mazak and HAAS equipment.
• Ensures proper machine set up and accurate interpretation of prints and specifications to prevent damage to material. Detects errors with frequent tolerance/quality checks.

Skills And Qualifications

• Excellent mechanical skills.

• Ability to operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining.
• Ability to read blueprints and plans.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1-3 years manufacturing experience
• Proficiency in shop math and blueprint reading is necessary to perform the job
• Computer skills including Windows based softwares such as MSOffice
