Job summary

Cook seeks a CNC Machinist to set up and operate manual and CNC machines, producing metal and plastic parts to tight tolerances. You will interpret blueprints, select cutting tools, and verify quality throughout production.

Proficiency in reading prints, performing precise setups, and inspecting parts with a variety of measuring devices is required. Mazak/HAAS experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1–3 years manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency in shop math and blueprint reading.
• Computer skills including Windows-based software such as MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints to ensure dimensions and specifications.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances and alignment.
• Obtains inspections on first pieces and in-process parts with measuring devices.
• Selects appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials for machines.
• Measures completed parts to identify defects and ensure they conform to specifications; adjusts controls as needed.
• Uses Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T) as called out on prints.
• Operates fabrication machinery (Mazak/HAAS) to produce parts.
• Ensures proper setup and accurate interpretation of prints to prevent material damage.

What does a CNC Machinist do here at Cook?

A Machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine plastic or metal work pieces using HAAS, MAZAK and other name brand machines. Machinists will be able to work to exacting tolerances, determine speeds and feeds to produce quality products. Must be able to visualize finished product, recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. May also function as final inspector for finished manufactured products.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and specifications for parts.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
• Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
• Selects the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to be used on machines.
• Examines and measures completed units and parts to identify any defects and to ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjusts machine controls to resolve production errors.
• Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.
• Operates fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes. Mostly on Mazak and HAAS equipment.
• Ensures proper machine set up and accurate interpretation of prints and specifications to prevent damage to material. Detects errors with frequent tolerance/quality checks.
