Job summary

Johnson Controls Navy Systems in York, PA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve machine shop operations, including manual and CNC machining centers. You will lead tooling development, equipment planning, and facility optimization while collaborating across departments to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.

You will apply lean manufacturing principles such as 5S and Six Sigma, develop standard work, and manage capital projects with suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 3–5 years hands‑on manufacturing experience.
  • Alternatively, 7–10 years of relevant manufacturing experience without a degree.
  • Experience with manual and CNC machining operations.
  • Proven lean manufacturing experience: 5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen.
  • Experience developing and maintaining standard work instructions and controls.
  • Capable of managing capital equipment projects and facility layout changes.
  • Able to assess manufacturability and perform supplier/vendor evaluations.
  • Support supplier startups and align with quality/delivery expectations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; SolidWorks or Creo experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes, tooling, and production controls.
  • Provide hands-on support to resolve day-to-day manufacturing issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement to reduce scrap, improve uptime, and efficiency.
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities within existing operations.
  • Manage capital equipment planning, justification, and procurement.
  • Plan facility changes to support forecasted production volumes.
  • Provide technical support across Materials, Quality, Engineering, and Safety.
  • Apply lean principles and lead 5S activities facility-wide.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Work Instructions for key processes.
  • Coordinate drawing changes and tooling/equipment procurements.
  • Evaluate specifications and costs for manufacturability and investment needs.
  • Perform supplier/vendor technical assessments and support startups.
