Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure safe operation of machining equipment and labs.
  • Prepare course documentation, scheduling, attendance, and grading as required.
  • Support program development, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Machining Adjunct Instructor, Economic & Workforce Development

Position Title: Machining Adjunct Instructor, Economic & Workforce Development

Employment Category: Adjunct

Anticipated Days: Variable

Anticipated Hours: 10 to 129 contact hours per month

Anticipated Hours per Week: up to 29 hours per week; no teleworking with this position

Position Summary

This position provides instruction and advising for students seeking certification and short-term training in the Economic & Workforce Development Department and the Advanced Manufacturing Center. The Machining Instructor provides in-person, hands‑on instruction for students and industry partners, supporting pre‑hire training, post‑hire upskilling, and incumbent worker development in machining and advanced manufacturing. The role designs and delivers industry‑aligned curriculum that meets employer, workforce, and safety requirements. This position guarantees a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 129 hours per month. Instructional hours are paid, and preparation and curriculum development are expected as part of the role.

Duties
  • Deliver in-person instruction in machining, CNC operations, and related manufacturing processes within Advanced Manufacturing Continuing Education and Customized Training programs at A-B Tech campuses, designated training sites, and partner locations.
  • Maintain mastery of subject matter and ensure curriculum reflects current industry standards and workforce needs.
  • Develop, customize, and update curriculum, teaching materials, activities, assignments, projects, and assessments; incorporate instructional technology as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with employers, internal teams, and subject‑matter experts to align training with workforce needs and job competencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and partner information.
  • Assess learner progress and adjust instruction to support skill development, progression, and credential attainment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, labs, field trips, and hands‑on experiences, ensuring adherence to the Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.
  • Ensure safe operation, setup, and basic maintenance of machining equipment and lab facilities.
  • Support program development, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate course documentation, reporting, and compliance with college policies and standards.
  • Prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction, evaluating student progress consistently and fairly.
  • Manage attendance, grading, rosters, class schedules, and section changes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor inventory, submit materials and supply requests, and exercise stewardship of college resources and facilities.
  • Maintain equipment to meet safety standards and ensure readiness for instruction. Uphold the highest standards of safety, organization, and cleanliness in labs and shop areas, adhering to all college, department, and discipline‑specific policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of practical experience in machining, CNC operations, or advanced manufacturing is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience providing in-person, hands‑on instruction or training. Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with modern manufacturing equipment and software (i.e., CNC Machinery, CAD / CAM, or other).
  • Ability to develop, customize, and deliver curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, employers, and team members.
  • Ability to supervise students in classrooms, labs, and hands‑on training environments.
  • Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting skills to ensure safe and operational labs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holds one or more of the following certifications: OSHA, First Aid and CPR, Certified Production Technician – Instructor, Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, Electrical Journeyman card or license, Hazwoper 40 Hour certification, Welding.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
Salary Range

Salary Range: $35 - $50 per contact hour
