Job Description:

As a Machine Shop Technical Production Supervisor, you will will lead the majority of our operations in the machine shop and other various production areas. They will help plan and coordinate production to meet daily and monthly goals. In addition to coaching and leading your department, you will plan and implement work for production areas ensuring materials and staffing are available for the department to perform daily work. You are a subject matter expert in many areas of manufacturing and use this knowledge to lead and train production employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct production operations in accordance with established priorities and sequences for manufacturing products using knowledge of production processes and methods, machine and equipment capabilities, and skilled labor.
  • Monitors and evaluates employee productivity and behavior and provides constructive feedback and coaching. Owns progressive discipline for assigned employees. Manages or routes employee relations issues appropriately and timely.
  • Maintains timekeeping and personnel records including but not limited to, vacation and time off requests and progressive discipline.
  • Partner with Production Superintendents, other Supervisors, Production Planning, and Materials departments to establish production schedules, combat production issues, and offer suggestions for changes in production conditions.
  • Assist Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering personnel in testing, troubleshooting, and modifying processes to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products.
  • Abides by ISO requirements and safety procedures in meeting or exceeding goals established for safety, labor efficiencies, schedule attainment, scrap, rework, and any other production related goals.
  • Supervise and assist in the setup, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Initiate, suggest, and implement plans to motivate, empower, and develop workers to achieve work goals in a team environment while complying with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.
  • Remain flexible in lean technique implementation and principles such as 5S, standardized work, waste identification and elimination, value stream mapping, team based multi-skilled workforce, one-piece flow technology, visual factory concepts, and total productive maintenance.
  • Ensures that all employees are following proper safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Required Skills:

  • Strong, proven leadership background leading employees in a manufacturing environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills including the use of Office Suite and especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and distribute time sensitive and accurate data.
  • Comfortable coaching, developing, and holding others accountable.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence.
  • Understanding and ability to drive LEAN principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints in addition to being able to machine from those prints.
  • Ability to assess, perform, and train others production processes and equipment.
  • Technical expertise in manufacturing.
  • Must be organized and detail orientated.
  • Must be able to communicate in an effective manner with all levels of employees.

Required Education/Experience:

  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing machine shops with state-of-the-art CNC equipment
  • Experience using JD Edwards E1 ERP system a major plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of work

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
  • Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to safely drive/operate motorized equipment/PIT.
