Job summary

Sumitomo Drive Technologies in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a skilled machinist/operator to setup and operate manual and semiautomatic machines for deburring, cleaning, preserving, and packaging machined components.

The role requires reading shop orders, assembling simple part subassemblies, and maintaining equipment while following 5S and safety policies. A high school diploma or GED and 5 years of manufacturing experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• Requires at least 5 years of experience in a fast paced manufacturing or assembly environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate simple machines.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand factory orders and shop schedules.
• Disassemble and assemble pins and rollers in gear assemblies as required by work orders.
• Set up, operate, and maintain deburring equipment, engraver, washing machine and rust prevention equipment.
• Verify dimensions using tape measure, go/no go gauges and calipers.
• Document actions by completing setup sheets and logs.
• Follow SOPs and 5S practices to achieve production targets and quality.
• Operate bandsaws and small presses; cut material for CNC areas.
• Load/unload parts on simple processes under supervision.
• Move inventory to proper stocking locations and maintain stock levels.
• Operate cranes and forklifts to move material.
• Light daily lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Perform daily cleaning and minor maintenance on machinery.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and support safety policies.
