Job summary

General Atomics in San Diego, California is seeking a Machine Shop Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop and implement production processes for parts and assemblies in a defense-oriented environment.

The role requires a Secret clearance, experience with CNC machining, GD&T, and implementation of DoD standards. This full-time onsite position offers travel up to 25% and relocation support is provided.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor’s in engineering or a related technical field and two or more years of manufacturing engineering experience.
• General understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to quickly understand new concepts and organize work to meet timetables.
• Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of CNC machining and scheduling for a machine shop (3-Axis/5-Axis, Mills, Lathes, Wire EDM, Water Jet, manual machines).
• Ability to read engineering blueprints and diagrams.
• Experience with MIL-Standards.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
• Knowledge of inspection equipment including hand tools and CMM/Laser.
• Hands-on experience is a plus.
• Ability to obtain DoD clearance.
• Customer focus and ability to work self-initiated or in a team; willing to extended hours and travel.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and maintains methods and processes for fabrication of parts and assemblies.
• Tests production stages to control variables and troubleshoot manufacturing problems.
• Designs sequence of production operations and adapts machinery.
• Collaborates with design engineering on technical specs to optimize equipment use.
• Estimates manufacturing costs and determines time standards.
• Ensures production processes comply with regulations.
• Maintains records and reporting systems for coordinating manufacturing operations.
• Documents findings and communicates results to staff.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Observes laws and regulations in all business conducted for the Company.
• Works safely per operating procedures and practices.
