Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems with applications across defense, space, and commercial sectors, based in the San Diego area.

Under general supervision, the role supports the machine shop manufacturing production process, focusing on design, development and implementation of new or revised production processes for efficient fabrication.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor's in engineering or a related technical field and 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
• General understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles and theory with ability to apply them safely and in regulatory compliance.
• Ability to quickly understand new concepts and organize work to meet timetables.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently or in a team.
• General understanding of CNC machining and scheduling for a machine shop, including 3-Axis, 5-Axis, Mills, Lathes, Wire EDMs, Water Jet and manual machines.
• Ability to read engineering blueprints and diagrams; knowledge of MIL-Standards; GD&T; DFM knowledge.
• Knowledge of inspection equipment, including hand tools and CMM/Laser.
• Hands-on experience is a plus; willingness to travel and obtain DoD clearance.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, this position supports the manufacturing production process with focus on the design, development, and implementation of new or revised production processes for the efficient and economical fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies. This position supports the machine shop specifically.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub- assemblies, and final assemblies.
• Conducts tests throughout all stages of production to determine control over applicable variables and troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing problems of moderate scope and complexity.
• Designs the sequence of production operations, specifying procedures for the fabrication of applicable tools and equipment, and adapting machinery.
• Collaborates with product design engineering on technical specifications that will best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Estimates manufacturing costs and determines time standards.
• Ensures that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
• Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
• Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to staff.
• Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelors in engineering or a related technical filed as well as two or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
• Must have a general understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
• Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
• Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Must have a general understanding or experience with CNC machining and scheduling for a machine shop. This includes 3-Axis, 5-Axis, Mills, Lathes, Wire EDM's, Water Jet and manual machines.
• The ability to read and understand engineering blue prints and diagrams.
• Experience working with and interpreting Specifications including MIL-Standards.
• Must have a working knowledge of GD&T.
• Must have an understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
• Knowledge of inspection equipment both hand tools and CMM/Laser.
• Hands on experience a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD clearance is required.
• Must have a customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

Salary range: 68,770 - 116,193
