Job Title: Machine Saw Operator
Job Description

This role focuses on operating metal cutting saws to process materials according to detailed work orders and customer specifications in a warehouse and production environment. You handle material from receipt through cutting and packaging, maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition, and accurately record all required measurements and inventory data. The position offers multiple shift options and requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities
  • Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications.

  • Set up and operate metal cutting saws and related machinery to run material to specification, following set-up notes and written work instructions.

  • Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure correct material and dimensions.

  • Verify that processed product meets set-up note specifications and record measurements according to sampling plans.

  • Perform inventory control on each work order, using math skills to track material usage and remaining stock.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and rulers to cut materials to precise customer specifications.

  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Properly enter and delete material identification tags in accordance with written instructions.

  • Operate weighing scales and accurately record inspection measurements.

  • Identify, record, and segregate scrap and non-conforming material, following quality procedures.

  • Perform equipment preventive maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Maintain issued measurement equipment in proper working condition.

  • Assist in packaging material according to written work instructions and work orders.

  • Maintain the processing area, equipment, and general work environment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.

  • Complete job responsibilities in a way that does not put yourself or others in unsafe situations, following all safety guidelines.

  • Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement efforts.

  • Perform general clean-up tasks as needed to support a tidy and efficient operation.

  • Train other team members in saw operation and related tasks when required.

  • Accurately complete all required information entry, documentation, and reporting associated with work orders and production activities.

Essential Skills
  • At least 2+ years of saw operation experience working with metals such as sheet metal and aluminum, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to read and write to understand work orders, instructions, and documentation.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly.

  • Basic math skills for inventory control, measurement calculations, and material usage tracking.

  • Proficiency in operating metal cutting saws, including bandsaws and similar industrial saw equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine cutting requirements and specifications.

  • Ability to read a ruler and tape measure accurately to achieve precise cuts.

  • Experience with inventory control processes for each work order in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skill in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy while working at a quick pace to meet customer demands.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous warehouse experience, particularly in the metals industry, is strongly preferred.

  • Previous forklift operation experience in an industrial or warehouse setting.

  • Experience using handheld measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and similar devices.

  • General machine operation experience, including machine set-up and running production equipment.

  • Exposure to industrial equipment such as waterjet, bandsaw, press brake, punch press, drill press, and CNC machinery.

  • Computer literacy for basic data entry, tag management, and documentation.

  • Ability to assist with lean manufacturing and quality improvement activities.

  • Willingness to train others and share knowledge of saw operation and material processing.

Work Environment

Multiple shifts are available, including 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), and some related roles operate on standard daytime hours such as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures, keep their work areas clean and orderly, and wear appropriate industrial work attire suitable for a warehouse and production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
