Job summary

Bell Textron Inc. in Fort Worth, TX is seeking a Machine Process Design Engineer to design digital machine processes and standards for advanced manufacturing equipment, working with metallics and composites to develop CAD/CAM workflows and verification tools.

You will drive process design certification, create machine simulations, and integrate machine functions into software models, collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance manufacturing innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; mechanical, electrical or manufacturing preferred.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing engineering design for metals and composites.
  • Strong CAD/CAM knowledge and data-flow understanding between part design and machine.
  • Experience with post-processor life cycle and machine simulations (Vericut).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create and mature advanced machine technologies to support multi‑axis equipment.
  • Develop CAD/CAM sequencing logic for tool technology, machine execution and automation.
  • Develop and implement policies to promote Manufacturing Innovation and new tech.
  • Lead complex projects for fabrication support using CAD/CAM for flight-critical parts.
  • Monitor process design effectiveness to meet certification targets.
  • Document best practices and data requirements for machine stability.
  • Troubleshoot machine process and part quality across the manufacturing lifecycle.

We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation aircraft.

This position is onsite at Bell’s headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

Machine Process Design Engineer

This position will execute activities for designing digital machine processes and standards for advanced manufacturing equipment.

You’ll work with both metallics and composite manufacturing processes executing the design and development of digital processes and resources.

Objectives also include driving the advancement of enterprise knowledge and capability within the field of Systems Engineering, specifically machine process design.

What you’ll be doing as a Machine Process Design Engineer:
  • Creation and maturation of advanced operational technologies to support machine application laws for multi-axis equipment which includes design and development of a complete machine simulation capability.

  • Development of sequencing logic for cutting tool technology, machine execution, and sub-system automation through the CAD/CAM system while integrating machine functions into software models to support machine application.

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and programs uniquely conceived to promote the Manufacturing Innovation mission and industrialization of new technologies.

  • Execute complex technical assignments and projects, including the development of machine fabrication support through the CAD/CAM system for flight critical aerospace components and assemblies.

  • Implement and monitor the effectiveness of process design activities that reduce and control variation to achieve the planned target levels for process design certification.

  • Develop and chronicle detailed records of best practice and standards including data requirements and approach which includes machine & cutter stability through process design and analysis

  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to machine process and part quality throughout the full manufacturing process lifecycle (CAD/CAM, Post Processing, Machine Control, Metrology)

Qualifications
Skills You Bring to This Role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Major in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering or Manufacturing Technology is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering design experience functions including working with Metallics and Composites materials, and experience designing digital machine processes and standards for CNC or similar. Experience in process design research and development is a plus.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the processes and workflows that are associated with machine programming and the design of standard work.

  • Understanding of CAD/CAM including data movement from part design to machine and back to part design is required.

  • Preferred experience designing / creating machine processes and programs through the post processor life cycle using machine simulations such as Vericut

  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems such as CATIA v5 or v6, Prefer Catia 3DX experience.

  • Ability to prioritize work, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a team player mindset.

  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, and brief leaders/customers.
