Job summary

Cooper Steel South, LLC is seeking a CNC Machine Operator to produce machined parts by setting up and operating CNC equipment while maintaining quality and safety standards. The weekend shift (Friday–Sunday, 5:30 AM–5:30 PM) includes a $2 extra shift premium.

The role requires attention to tolerances and ongoing record-keeping. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent and prior CNC/machining experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines to produce machined parts.

• Verify settings and inspect first-run parts within tolerances.
• Maintain safe operations and document actions across shifts.
• Perform daily tool and equipment inspection.
• Overtime may be required.

Job description

Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies. This shift will work Friday-Sunday 5:30 AM - 5:30 PM. There will be a $2 extra shift premium for this weekend position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
• Plans machining by analyzing work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications and machining parameters.
• Able to enter instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math.
• Must have knowledge of and able to set up tools and attachments.
• Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to required tolerances.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, punching, and cutting, including operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintains stability among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Understand units of measure, general mathematical equations
• Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
• Other duties as assigned

• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred
• Strong functional and technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others.
• While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping required. Specific vision abilities are required.
• Lifting is required up to 75 lbs.
• Climbing is required up to 4 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment.
• Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
