The Service Sharpener position is an entry-level role on our second shift and is responsible for learning and operating multiple machines used to sharpen carbide saw blades. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and a willingness to learn complex machinery processes in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions:

- Operate machines to sharpen carbide saw blades according to print specifications.
- Inspect blades to ensure they meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance, including cleaning, greasing, and replacing cutting wheels.
- Maintain a consistent flow of materials through the production area.
- Accurately complete and manage required paperwork and production documentation.
- Communicate material shortages and equipment issues to the appropriate team members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to 6S workplace organization standards.
- Follow all company safety policies and guidelines on ethical conduct.
- Support a safe and respectful work environment by modeling ethical behavior.
Competencies:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operations.
- Ability to learn machine setups and troubleshoot machine errors.
- Proficient in reading blueprints and using measuring tools such as calipers.

Work Environment:
- This role is based in a professional manufacturing shop environment.
- Protective equipment and adherence to safety standards are required at all times.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate machinery.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position on second shift, hours will be 2 to 10:30, but hours of work and days may vary based on production. Training will be on the first shift.
Required Education and Experience:
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: 2-year technical degree or vocational training in machining or a related field.
