Job summary

Lakeside Book Company in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a Pressroom Operator 2 for a 12‑hour day shift. You will load paper, hang plates, verify inks and setup, and run jobs with a focus on color accuracy and quality control.

The role requires basic color matching, reading specifications, and the ability to operate safely in a production environment. Compensation includes a shift differential and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Standing and walking 12‑hour shift and lifting up to 60 lbs.
• May be exposed to liquid chemicals or vapors.
• Ability to read instructions and a ruler to 1/16 inch.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain a job run including loading paper and hanging plates.
• Review job ticket, verify ink and paper match, set up fountains, feeders and plates.
• Check color specifications and perform color matching.
• Run the job with standard QC measures (date stamping and offset checks).
• Identify and fix printing problems such as picking, piling, and register defects.
• Use measuring devices as needed (gauge, densitometer, micrometer).
• Enforce SOPs and assist operators when necessary.
• Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping.
• Report time and production results accurately.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.

Starting Pay: $25.75 - $33.25 (+$1.00/hr Night Shift Differential)

• Based on experience.

• Potential performance based pay increases at 3 months, 6 months, and during merit review.

As a Pressroom Operator 2, you will:

• Able to perform basic operations to setup and maintain a job run including loading paper, hanging plates, etc

• Review job ticket, verify ink and paper match the job, and know how to set up fountains, feeders and plates

• Check color specifications and determine how to conduct color matching

• Run the job using standard quality control measures including date stamping and checking offset

• Recognize and eliminate printing problems such as picking, piling, register and other defects

• Use measuring devices such as blanket gauge, densitometer, durometer, PH meter, packing gauge or micrometer as needed

• Enforce SOPs and assist operators when necessary

• Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping functions

• Report time and production results accurately

• Adhere to and promote all safety policies and procedures

• All other duties as assigned

What It Takes:

• Ability to stand and walk for 12-hour shift and lift up to 60lbs

• May be exposed to liquid chemicals or vapors

• Ability to read and understand written instructions and read a standard ruler down to 1/16 of an inch.

• High levels of attention to detail

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Minimum (2) years prior pressman experience required

• Technical training with Heidelberg sheet fed printing preferred
