Olympic Steel, Inc. is seeking a Leveler Operator for the 2nd shift to set up and operate equipment, verify material specs, and support efficient production.

You will load coil stock, run leveler rolls, inspect hardness, width, and length, and prepare sheets for shipping while maintaining safety and quality.

This role requires basic math, crane awareness, and working knowledge of computer programs, with opportunities to grow within a large, storied manufacturing organization.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate leveler equipment in coordination with production staff.
• Confirm material conformity to job requirements and customer specs.
• Load coil stock, feed through leveler rolls, and adjust settings for quality output.
• Thread through automatic length and sheet count; verify width and length.
• Stack sheets per order and oversee packaging to meet specifications.
• Weigh and prepare shipping labels and attach to orders.
• Record production data and time information.
• Identify and report faulty operation or materials to supervisor.

Job Description

Specific job tasks required by the Leveler Operator:

• Setup involves working in conjunction with an assigned production employee helper to complete a sequence of setups by following established procedures.
• Confirm hardness, gauge width, and finished material conformity to job requirements and customer specifications.
• Operate console to mechanically load coil stock to pay-off mechanism, set for proper width, feed through leveler rolls, and adjust micro setting through console controls to secure flat sheet stock.
• Thread through automatic length and sheet count, set feeds and speed for optimum quantity and quality requirements.
• Stack required sheets according to order.
• Oversee packaging of material to ensure customer specifications are met.
• Verify final product for hardness; gauge width and length to insure conformity to order.
• Weigh and prepare shipping and stock tags and attaches to order.
• Remove unused coils from payoff for return to inventory.
• Occasionally operate units manually.
• Detect faulty operation, defective material, and refer these and other situations to supervisor.
• Record production data and time information.

** 2nd Shift- 4:00pm - 2:30am- Some nights and weekends to meet business needs

• General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices.
• Basic math skills required.
• Working knowledge of general computer programs required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
