Overview

Graham Packaging Company is looking for a Machine Operator II based in Hammond, LA. This position will work from 7:00am - 7:00pm on a 2-2-3 schedule.

The Operator is responsible for operating a set of plastic blow molding machines (including in-line equipment), and makes necessary adjustments or minor repairs to ensure production of containers is made in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner. The primary duties of an Operator include:

  1. Understanding, following, and enforcing all established safety, health, quality GMP, and Company policies, procedures, and recognized practices.
  2. Participating in continuous quality improvement projects and other related activities as assigned.
  3. Operating a group of plastic blow molding machines and auxiliary equipment producing containers safely and with high quality.
  4. Performing mold, insert, and color changes on the line.
  5. Performing basic processing of injection and/or blow molding machines to improve efficiency and reduce scrap.
  6. Performing tasks and responsibilities of any Utility position during slow periods or as needed.
  7. Monitoring HDPE/PET resin (if applicable), dryer, material handling, and color systems for proper processing conditions.
  8. Making frequent on-time quality checks on products based on established standards.
  9. Assisting other Operators and maintenance personnel with mechanical repairs.
  10. Performing assigned preventative maintenance work.
  11. Maintaining a safe and clean work area.
  12. Completing and filing all required documentation promptly and accurately.
  13. Communicating with the Production Shift Supervisor to support production objectives.
  14. Verifying material usage per standards.
  15. Performing minor troubleshooting and programming on the line; notifying leads and supervisors of major issues.
  16. Operating equipment to minimize regrind, purge, and scrap generation within customer specifications where applicable.
  17. Properly identifying regrind and chunk produced.
  18. Communicating processing information to the incoming shift and assisting other Operators as needed.
  19. Assisting in training new Operators.
  20. Limited travel may be required.
Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years in manufacturing is required.

Additional essential skills include:

  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and typing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given instructions and routines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong collaboration skills, proactively contributing to team objectives and helping others.
