Job summary

Mueller Water Products, a leading water infrastructure company, seeks a Machine Operator I to operate CNC lathes and mills, interpret blueprints and GD&T, and ensure quality and safety standards on a standing shift.

Responsibilities include setting up equipment, measuring parts, maintaining logs, and collaborating with Operations to meet production KPIs. Requires 3+ years CNC experience and a High School Diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 3+ years operating CNC equipment in industrial/manufacturing environments.

Machine Operator I Mueller Company

SUMMARY The driving force behind our growth at Mueller is our people. The Machine Operator I is primarily responsible for operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe and mill machine, maintaining quality and safety standards; and maintaining equipment and supplies. This is a standing position that requires physical skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Read blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Sets‑ups mills and lathes by installing tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices Loads or feeds mechanism by lifting stock into position
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces
  • Maintains specifications by observing milling, drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread cutting operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
  • Constantly strive to improve processes and eliminate downtime
  • Work closely with Operations, Planning, and Leadership to ensure production KPI’s are met
  • Perform job duties on designated shift with flexibility to rotate shift if needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong problem-solving skills: ability to quickly ascertain a situation and be decisive in solving problems. Strong oral and written communication skills Adaptable – ability to work in an ever-changing environment Basic knowledge of CNC programing and machining technology Interpersonal skills Read blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • CNC Machining Certification preferred.
  • Experience in CAD/CAM Nesting Software preferred.
  • Experience with DMG Mori CNC machines and HAAS is a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED. 3 or more years operating and S/U experience on CNC equipment. Experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing type environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to stand in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to walk around in an industrial safety sensitive environment on an ongoing daily basis
  • Must have good manual dexterity (use of hands and fingers) to use a computer and multiple pieces of industrial equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend stairs
  • The person in this position must be able to communicate with leadership and other departments daily, so the ability to speak & communicate clearly and accurately is essential
  • Position requires the ability to hear and see as this person will be on the plant floor in safety sensitive areas daily
  • Must be able to work in a plant (loud noises, cold/hot environment, machinery running) environment
  • Must be able to function in a high-pressure production type environment
