Job summary

Q&B Foods in Tennessee is seeking a Machine Operator to operate, monitor, and maintain production equipment to ensure safe, quality food production.

You will follow mixing procedures, inspect lines, adjust settings for correct fill, report malfunctions, and support quality control as needed.

This is a full-time position with Monday–Friday hours, occasional weekends, 2nd shift starts at 2 pm, and a production environment with exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • English language skills (speaking/listening/writing).
  • Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication) and calculator use.
  • Read thermometers, gauges, meters and adjust equipment as required.
  • Experience in food manufacturing is a plus.
  • Spanish a plus.

Machine Operators play a key role in keeping our food manufacturing process running efficiently and safely. Job duties involve operating, monitoring, and maintaining production equipment to ensure quality products and smooth operations.

Job duties may include:

  • Obtain daily mixing sheet from Lead Person.
  • Inspect equipment such as tanks and pipes to ensure clean and sanitized. Inspect oil, water and vinegar lines and pumps to ensure proper connection.
  • Ensure ingredients on list are available. Check correct raw material, weights and numbers are in accordance to specifications i.e. organic, non-gmo, specific brand, specific color, etc.
  • Pour ingredients into mixing tank. Turn valve to permit measured amounts of liquids such as oil, water and vinegar flow into mixing tank. Observe agitation and mixing to insure thorough blending.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure proper operation; make adjustments as needed. Report any malfunctions to Lead Person or Supervisor.
  • Submit samples from tank to Quality Control for chemical analysis. Report any out of specifications/range results to Supervisor. Report any shortages and or spills. Report and record any changes and/or adjustments made. Report any products on HOLD and WIP and reason.
  • Follow exact mixing procedures. Compare sample to standard sample to ensure mixture meets color and texture specifications.
  • Operate and maintain filling and capping machinery.
  • Inspect and ensure cleanliness of filling & capping areas.
  • Check for proper fit of bottles, caps, and product labels.
  • Adjust machine settings to match bottle sizes and product fill levels.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Person to confirm the correct product for each run.
  • Perform routine checks for defective bottles, caps, and off-color or contaminated products.
  • Flush hoses to ensure proper product flow before starting a new batch.
  • Regularly monitor product temperature and adjust fill levels to meet specifications.
  • Keep track of bottle and cap supply to prevent shortages during production.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including greasing machines and changing injector seals.
  • Obtain production schedule.
  • Print labels for finished goods and ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure label supply.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Previous experience in food manufacturing industry in processing a plus
  3. Knowledge: basic mathematics-addition, subtraction, multiplication; must be able to use a calculator.
  4. Must be able to read thermometers, gauges, meters and adjust equipment as required.
  5. English Language (Speaking/Listening/Writing); Spanish a plus
  6. Skills: Communication skills verbal and written, reading comprehension, active listening, problem solving, coordination, service orientation, multitasking

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Minimum 1 year of experience in food manufacturing industry in processing

Expected Working Hours

This is a full-time position, and basic hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. Hours depending on shift. 2nd shift starts at 2 pm.

Work Environment

This job operates in a food production environment where raw materials are put through a process to produce a finished good that is suitable for consumption. This role is routinely surrounded by machinery, high/low lighting, temperature fluctuation, continuous noise and smells. May be exposed to chemical ingredients, sanitizers and cleaning agents.
