Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands in Fontana, CA is seeking a Machine Operator I to set up and operate heavy machinery, perform cutting, punching, forming, and painting tasks, and ensure quality parts. You will read blueprints, use gauges and tape measures, maintain equipment, and follow safety rules in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while supporting continuous improvement and cost-saving ideas.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of related manufacturing experience.
• 1 year operating manufacturing machinery/equipment.
• Good communication skills are essential.
• Basic computer skills may be required.
• Experience with hand tools and gauges is preferred.
• Forklift experience is a plus and crane experience is a plus.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate heavy machinery and related gauges for cutting, punching, forming, blocking, and processing operations.
• Follow safety rules and maintain a safe manufacturing environment.
• Operate CNC-controlled machines such as presses, lasers, and rolling mills with emphasis on safety and quality.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, adjustments, and lubrication on equipment.
• Read blueprints and specifications to select materials and parts.
• Inspect parts for defects and ensure quality per Quality Systems.
• Provide cost-saving suggestions to improve productivity and reduce waste.
• Maintain accurate part IDs, numbers, and piece counts; use identification tags as required.
• Support continuous improvement in the work area and adapt to overtime as needed.

Machine Operator I Responsibilities

• The Machine Operator I is responsible for setting up and operating heavy machinery and related gauges to perform various cutting, punching, forming, blocking, and processing operations.
• They must have thorough knowledge of production techniques and the ability to produce quality-building parts.
• Understands and follows safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and around a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to set-up and operate machinery and equipment to cut, punch, form, or paint quality finished or semi-finished parts.
• Ability to operate computerized equipment and material handling equipment.
• Operate various CNC-controlled machines, such as presses, lasers, and rolling mills in a fast-paced production setting, with an emphasis on safety and quality.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance, adjustments, and lubrication on equipment and production tools as required to maintain proper operation.
• Marks part numbers, order numbers, and the number of pieces on parts. Attaches identification tags as required for customer to have the ability locate correct parts.
• Interprets blueprints, specifications, and other technical data to select the correct raw material or semi-finished parts.
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area.
• Provide cost-saving suggestions and ideas to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
• Utilize scanning equipment.
• Inspect work visually for defects according to Quality Systems.
• Read a tape measure, write, and follow posted schedules.
• Team player and keeping safety first.
• May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader.
• Willing/able to work overtime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• A minimum of one year of related work experience in manufacturing or comparable work environment.
• A minimum of one year operating manufacturing machinery and/or equipment.
• Good Communication Skills.
• Basic Computer Skills.
• Experience with hand tools, wrenches, banding equipment and nail guns.
• Able to use of measuring gauges.
• Able to read a tape measure.
• Forklift experience a plus / Must be trainable on forklift.
• Crane experience a plus / Must be trainable on crane.
• Flexible with working overtime and weekends when needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist.

Site Address: 14213 Whittram Ave., Fontana, CA 92335.

This is a position with the potential of overtime. The shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours long depending on work orders for the day and season of the year.

Pay

The US pay range for this full-time position is $21.00 per hour to $24.00 per hour + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. (Full-time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week. Union programs may vary depending on the collective bargaining agreement.)
