Job summary

Phoenix Metals Company in Georgia seeks a production worker to operate a variety of metalworking machines and perform basic production tasks.

You will inspect parts, follow blueprints, adjust tools, and monitor speeds and feeds, while maintaining safety and quality standards. Ideal candidates have 0–5 years of experience and a high school diploma or GED; forklift experience is required.

Qualifications

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or education and experience combination.

• Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting metal working machines preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for performing basic production activities on variety of machines to produce precision parts and instruments.
• Frequently walk back and forth between operator platform and loading platform to perform quality check.
• Frequently ascend/descend stairs to operator platform to manage operations of cut to length machine.
• Review blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other specifications to understand machining characteristics.
• Choose correct material for the job according to work order and determine processing specifications.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
• Selects and monitors speeds, feeds and controls and determines operation sequence.
• Machine and modify parts using tools such as lathes, milling machines.
• Fabricate, modify, and repair mechanical instruments per specifications.
• Position work pieces for processing and measure with precision instruments to ensure conformance.
• Perform quality control inspections and complete work order paperwork.
• Restock material and coordinate material handling while adhering to safety standards.

Job Function

• Responsible for performing basic production activities on variety of machines to produce precision parts and instruments.

• Reviews blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications to understand machining characteristics of various metals.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances and operational sequences.
• Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
• Selects and monitors speeds, feeds and controls and determines operation sequence for various materials and operating conditions.
• Machines and modifies parts used to repair tools or machines per specifications using tools such as lathes, milling machines, etc.
• Fabricates, modifies, and/or repairs mechanical instruments.
• Creates complicated or irregularly shaped parts or sections per established drawings, requiring careful blocking and clamping to avoid springing or distortion.
• Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).
• Measures and examines pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales and squares to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Cleans equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Restocks material.
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
• May mark material after processing and store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.

Required Skills

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
• High School diploma/GED preferred.
• Warehousing and material handling experience preferred.
