ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment as well as preparing materials for usage, storage, or shipment. This position involves operations, sanitation, and maintenance of production equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to be flexible & operate within various departments.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment for all areas & equipment to maintain compliance with established safety & quality policies & procedures; including cleaning & sanitizing all equipment and facilities as required.
- Ensure finished products meet quality specifications by accurately conducting quality checks and sampling to ensure product specifications by completing checks on lines.
- Observe machine operations to ensure the quality and conformity of the product.
- Manually records data through chart recording and makes necessary process adjustments based on data findings & to demonstrate compliance with safety, food safety, and environmental laws, regulations, or policies.
- Ensure productivity by adhering to manufacturing practices, standard operating procedures, critical control points, and safety and food safety practices.
- Make independent adjustments to machines to maintain the greatest operational efficiency including properly reattaching parts as needed, properly setting speed, and adjusting other settings.
- Actively work with maintenance, CI, and engineering to optimize the machine and overall line performance.
- Must be willing and able to do start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
- Participates in the creation of SOPs, Standard settings, and continuous improvement activities.
- Identify potential problems and correct the defect or notify the appropriate resources.
- Stop, reset, or troubleshoot machines when malfunctions occur clear machine jams, and report defects to the appropriate resource.
- Prepare, stage, verify and set raw materials/packing materials by utilizing power industrial equipment as needed.
- Must be able to follow a bill of material, perform basic weight conversions.
- Remove finished product items from the machine and separate rejected or defective items.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL/SKILLS NEEDED:
- Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook experience.
- The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Ability to meet production schedules or other deadlines with a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate powered industrial equipment.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, co-workers, and all those involved with the production process.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and use good judgment.
- Must be able to multitask and adapt to change.
- Must be willing to train new staff and be logical and reasonable in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of coworkers to ensure proper training methods are imposed.
- Able to identify areas of improvement in complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Must possess excellent time management skills for themselves and others.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and storing of goods.
- English comprehension including speaking, reading, and writing is required for our business's necessity to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment; food manufacturing preferred.
- Understanding of production procedures.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing/continuous improvement methodologies desired.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May require the employee to frequently lift and/or carry with two hands up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Required to stand and walk for an entire shift.
- Requires frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching bending, twisting, stooping, and squatting.
- Requires frequent visual quality control observations which may include turning and bending of the head and neck area.
- Requires frequent repetitive motion.
- Must be able to work in various indoor temperatures including elevated heat and humidity.
- Exposure to elevated noise levels which occur below OSHA thresholds.
- Infrequent exposure to machine sanitation solutions and detergents.
- Exposure to various spices and food manufacturing smells throughout a work shift.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment [PPE].
- Required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices [GMPs].
- May be required to work in noisy environments while using hearing protection.
- Exposure to food allergens such as, but not limited to, milk, eggs, tree nuts, wheat, and soybeans will occur.
