Aerotek is seeking a Machine Operator CNC Laser in Bartlett, IL on a contract-to-hire basis. The role involves setting up and operating CNC laser machines to cut materials per work orders, handling materials, and preparing shipments. Second shift hours are 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Job Title: Machine Operator CNC Laser

Job Description

This role is responsible for setting up and operating CNC laser machines to cut materials according to work orders, while supporting production through general material handling and warehouse tasks. The machine operator ensures products meet quality standards, prepares materials for shipment, and contributes to a safe, efficient, and well-organized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC laser machines to proper specifications based on work orders and production requirements.

• Operate CNC laser equipment to cut materials accurately to the dimensions and tolerances specified.

• Interpret blueprints and work instructions to ensure correct setup, cutting paths, and material handling.

• Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and product quality.

• Inspect materials and finished parts coming off the machine to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.

• Troubleshoot basic machine and process issues to maintain consistent production flow.

• Perform general material handling tasks, including moving, staging, and organizing raw materials and finished goods.

• Complete general warehouse duties such as labeling, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean work area.

• Package finished materials securely and prepare orders for shipment, including proper documentation and staging.

• Safely operate forklifts and work with overhead cranes to transport materials throughout the facility.

• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around heavy equipment, machinery, and material storage areas.

• Collaborate with production team members to meet daily output, quality, and on-time delivery goals.

• Support shift requirements by working additional hours before or after scheduled shifts and some weekends as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in the setup and operation of CNC laser machines.

• Proficiency in CNC laser machine operation, including setting parameters and running production jobs.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate cutting and part production.

• Skilled in using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures for inspection and quality control.

• Experience with production and machine operation in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Basic troubleshooting skills to address machine and process issues during operation.

• Ability to perform inspection of parts and materials to verify compliance with specifications.

• Capability to perform general material handling and warehouse tasks safely and efficiently.

• Experience operating forklifts in an industrial or warehouse setting.

• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating Mitsubishi laser equipment is a strong plus.

• Comfort working with overhead cranes and large forklifts for material movement.

• Familiarity with processed metal products and metal fabrication environments.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including potential overtime before or after scheduled shifts and some weekends.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with production staff.

• Commitment to safety and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Work Environment

This position works in a metal processing and storage facility that includes raw material storage, finished goods storage, and large overhead doors for flatbed loading. Overhead cranes and large forklifts are used to transport material throughout the facility, requiring consistent attention to safety. The role is scheduled on second shift, with typical hours of 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and may require additional hours before or after the regular shift as well as some weekends to meet production demands. The environment is industrial, with active machinery, material handling equipment, and ongoing production activities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
