Job summary

Aerotek in Vernon, CT is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate a range of CNC lathes, milling and Swiss machines in a high-changeover production environment, with growth toward a setup/programmer role.

You will inspect parts with SMTE, read blueprints, edit small programs in G-code, manage tooling and changeovers, and strive to improve efficiency while maintaining quality and safety.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of setup and operation on CNC lathes and mill-turn machines.
• Hands-on experience with HAAS and Okuma CNC equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings.

Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as a CNC Machinist in a high-changeover, production-focused environment, setting up and operating a variety of CNC machines while steadily growing into a setup/programmer who can operate multiple machines. You will handle complex machining tasks, perform your own inspections, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, precision components for demanding industries.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes, milling machines, multi-turret machines, mill-turn machines, and Swiss machines in a high-changeover production environment.

• Work with a variety of CNC equipment, including Eurotech mill-turn machines, HAAS machines, Okuma machines, and other advanced CNC platforms.

• Perform machine offsets and changeover of tools to maintain dimensional accuracy and meet production requirements.

• Run multiple CNC machines simultaneously while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.

• Inspect machined parts using Standard Measurement Test Equipment (SMTE) to ensure they meet blueprint specifications and customer requirements.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to set up machines and produce parts to precise tolerances.

• Use working knowledge of G-code to support programming, make minor program edits, and optimize machining operations as needed.

• Manage and control inventory of tools and materials related to machining operations.

• Work independently with minimal supervision, prioritizing tasks and resolving machining issues as they arise.

• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce setup time, improve changeovers, and enhance machining efficiency.

• Progress toward becoming a setup/programmer capable of operating two machines and handling complex changeover requirements.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in setup and operation of CNC lathes, multi-turret machines, and mill-turn machines.

• Hands-on experience with CNC equipment such as HAAS and Okuma machines, and similar mill-turn platforms.

• Working knowledge of G-code for CNC programming and the ability to make basic program edits.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.

• Ability to inspect own work using Standard Measurement Test Equipment (SMTE) and verify part conformity to specifications.

• Demonstrated capability to work independently with minimal supervision in a production environment.

• Experience running multiple CNC machines at once while maintaining quality and throughput.

• Strong understanding of CNC setup, including tooling selection, offsets, and changeover processes.

• Proficiency in operating CNC milling machines, lathes, and 5-axis milling machines.

• Experience working with specialty metals and other metal materials in machining applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background as a CNC machinist, CNC setup operator, or CNC milling machinist.

• Experience with 5-axis milling machines and complex machining operations.

• Familiarity with Fanuc controls and related CNC control systems.

• Knowledge of inventory control related to tooling and machining materials.

• Experience with mill-turn machines, Swiss machines, and multi-turret CNC equipment.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent changeovers.

• Interest in growing into a setup/programmer role and operating multiple machines.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of VERNON, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
