The Pack Machine Operator I is responsible for the smooth operation and coordination of their lines to meet production needs while maintaining consistent service levels. They must ensure compliance with all food safety policies and procedures, including SQF requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Set up machines, perform pre-operational checks for sanitary conditions, and clean as necessary, including allergen cleaning.
- Conduct product weight, seal integrity, label alignment, and print quality checks according to SOPs.
- Verify that all information on proof sheets matches labels, case labels, and artwork printed on bags/labels; complete required paperwork, ensuring correct product and lot numbers are picked.
- Monitor for product defects such as broken packaging, open seals, or improper fill levels.
- Oversee the entire line and support staff, including packers and dumpers, providing direction to meet production goals.
- Assist in cleaning machines and production equipment in accordance with SQF standards.
- Report faulty equipment needing maintenance, adjustments, or repairs to supervisors.
- Operate equipment safely and ensure the safety of line associates.
- Follow HACCP principles and Good Manufacturing Practices, complying with safety procedures, company policies, and regulations.
- Perform other relevant duties as required.
Secondary Functions and Basic Duties:
- Perform all functions of a Production Worker I and Lead, including packing, sealing, vacuum packing, loading hoppers, and stacking pallets.
- Count and inspect packages during filling.
- Set up and load case erectors.
- Manage rework products and check raw materials against packed items.
- Complete safety checklists for lift equipment.
Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent related experience.
Experience:
- Preferred experience in food or related manufacturing environments.
- Experience operating Form, Fill, Seal packaging machines (vertical or horizontal).
- 1-2 years of experience in setting up or running packaging machines.
Knowledge:
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Safety guidelines understanding.
- Knowledge of production management systems (e.g., prod).
- Understanding of HACCP, SQF, ISO, QS guidelines and procedures.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work around Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Wheat, and Milk.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
- Mechanical reasoning, problem-solving, and learning capabilities.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Physical ability to perform repetitive motions, lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, and stand for long periods (8+ hours).
