Job description

Reports To: 1st Shift Production Supervisor

Hours: 6:00am – 2:30pm

About Our Company:

Since 1946, Hayes Performance Systems has built a legacy of innovation and quality. Starting as H-H Products in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, producing parts for outboard motors and small engines, we have grown into a global leader in braking and suspension systems. Today, we serve diverse industries such as powersports, cycling, agriculture, construction, and government.

Our 155,000-square-foot headquarters in Mequon, Wisconsin, along with dedicated teams across North America, Europe, and Asia, enables us to deliver tailored products and solutions that meet the unique needs of customers worldwide.

In 2023, Hayes Performance Systems expanded its capabilities by acquiring ACI Industries, a precision machining company specializing in custom metal and plastic components. This strategic acquisition strengthens our ability to handle complex projects—ranging from prototyping and short-run jobs to high-volume production—while upholding the quality and agility that define Hayes. Supported by cutting-edge CAD/CAM software and advanced high-speed machinery, ACI’s skilled team complements our operations perfectly.

At Hayes, we are dedicated to providing our employees with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to succeed and grow. When you join us, you become part of a company driven by innovation, collaboration, and dedication. If you’re ready to make an impact and develop your career, Hayes is the place for you.

About the Role:

As a Machine Operator, you will play a critical role in operating various machines while maintaining the quality and safety of the products and processes. This position offers the opportunity to support manufacturing operations by ensuring machine functionality, troubleshooting issues, performing setups, and mentoring others. You’ll collaborate with a talented team to drive innovation and excellence, taking ownership of key responsibilities that directly contribute to our success.

  • Operate a variety of machines (CNCs, lathes, mills, drill presses, etc.) safely and effectively, often simultaneously.
  • Perform setups and fixture changeovers with minimal assistance; validate CNC programs and fixturing.
  • Start-up/shut down machines and complete basic preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect parts during and after production using precision tools and CMM; visually check for defects and adjust tooling offsets as needed.
  • Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues; replace worn/broken tools and maintain tool history.
  • Follow work instructions, SPC procedures, and quality standards to ensure part compliance.
  • Document inspection results; support and assist others with charting and quality documentation.
  • Train, support, assign, and inspect the work of other machine operators as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace using 6S principles.
  • Follow ISO procedures and actively participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Exhibit professionalism, accountability, and teamwork in daily operations.
What We’re Looking For:

Education, Skills, Experience, and Knowledge:

  • 3–5 years of experience operating various machining equipment, including CNCs, with the ability to perform setups, inspections, and tooling adjustments independently.
  • Proficient in machine setups, blueprint reading, and operating at least six different, non-similar machines (including one CNC-controlled).
  • Skilled in reading and following technical work instructions and part drawings.
  • Strong math skills for measurements, charting, and tooling/machine adjustments.
  • High attention to detail with a consistent track record of meeting production and quality standards.
  • Able to stand for extended periods (85–100% of the shift).
  • Thorough understanding of machining operations, tooling, and common part defects.
  • Effective written and verbal communication for shift handovers and production updates.
Our Benefits Package:

At Hayes Performance Systems, we truly care about our team and offer a competitive benefits package designed to support your well-being and growth:

  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401(k) Plan: With company match to help secure your future
  • Paid Time Off: Vacation days and holidays to relax and recharge.
