Job summary

Altec Industries, Inc. in Duluth, MN, seeks a skilled machinist to operate laser and plasma cutting, press brakes, and saws to fabricate parts per drawings and specs.

You will set up machines, read blueprints, measure with precision, perform rework, and inspect parts for conformance while maintaining a safe, organized work area. This role supports APS initiatives, cross-training, and continuous improvement, with emphasis on teamwork, quality, and safety.

Qualifications

• Read, write, and comprehend at a basic level.
• Ability to read drawings and understand basic dimensions.
• Familiar with measuring equipment and general hand tools.
• Capable of moderate math calculations.

Responsibilities

• Operate cutting machines (laser/plasma), press, saw, and manual tools.
• Set and adjust machine parameters to meet specifications and timelines.
• Read drawings and verify dimensions.
• Perform rework, inspections, and use measuring tools to verify conformance.
• Load/unload components, maintain area, and record time daily.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and cross-train as needed.
• Follow safety, environmental, and quality policies; protect PPE.
• Assist and train coworkers; move to other work areas as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate cutting machines, laser/plasma, press machines, saw, and manual cutting tools
• Control and adjust machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion
• Read drawings and understands basic dimensions
• Perform rework and repair tasks
• Perform inspection of machined parts
• Use measuring equipment to verify conformance to specifications
• Load and unload components and tooling
• Maintain daily time records
• Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives. May participate in continuous improvement events
• Move to other work areas to support production needs (cross-train)
• Effectively assist and train new/current associates
• Follow established safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures, and practices to include proper use and care of PPE
• Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment
• Shows commitment to Altec core values
• Other job duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must:

• be able to provide a high school diploma/GED.
• have the ability to read, write, and comprehend.
• have basic computer usage knowledge.
• know how to use measuring equipment and general hand tools.
• be able to perform moderate math calculations.

Pay Transparency

Pay range: $23.63/hour - $25.53/hour. We are committed to fair and competitive pay for all associates based on their experience, education, and qualifications.
