Position Summary for Machine Operator

Machine Operators at Sugar Foods serve as owners of a particular machine or line within a process area. The Sugar Foods Villa Rica operation is a food manufacturing, packing, and distribution facility. Machines at Sugar Foods include ovens, baggers, and case erectors among others. The Villa Rica plant operates 24 hours a day in a fast-paced environment. Operators are responsible for ensuring that their machine and/or line safely produces the highest quality products for Sugar Foods customers. They are expected to exercise good judgment with an emphasis on safety first and attention to quality. Operators must follow standard work processes to maximize equipment effectiveness and continuously seek improvements. They work closely with Line Associates, Pod Leaders, Maintenance, and Quality technicians on daily operations and improvement projects. Success at Sugar Foods requires embracing and teaching the Sugar Foods Way to all team members.

Your Responsibilities as a Sugar Foods Machine Operator

Safely and Effectively Run Your Machine and Manage Your Line

• Prepare your machine, line, and team
• Meet with the previous shift's machine operator to discuss issues and ensure a smooth hand-off
• Review the daily schedule and prepare accordingly
• Communicate with material handlers to ensure proper materials for setup
• Coordinate with line associates and temporary staff for setup and schedule execution
• Verify safety mechanisms are operational and team members understand safety rules
• Operate the machine safely and efficiently
• Check settings and match to product run via graphical interface
• Start-up the machine
• Run the machine to expected standards, aiming for zero quality defects and safety violations, and 80% OEE productivity
• Regulate machine flow, speed, and temperature
• Monitor production output, resolve jams, and inspect products for conformity
• Perform scheduled safety and quality inspections
• Troubleshoot and determine when to take the machine offline for safety or quality issues
• Collaborate with maintenance on mechanical problems and conduct preventative maintenance
• Relieve line associates for breaks as needed
• Record waste and monitor production metrics

• Perform minor adjustments, repairs, and preventative maintenance using basic tools
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Optimize team and equipment utilization
• Identify process improvements
