Job summary

Mueller is seeking a dependable Machine Operator for rotary operations in our manufacturing facility in Grand Rapids, MI. You will set up and operate rotary machines to produce components per job travelers and ensure parts meet dimensional tolerances.

Responsibilities include adjusting speeds and feeds, inspecting first pieces, documenting production activities, and performing basic machine maintenance while following safety policies. Prior experience preferred.

  • Strong math skills and ability to read and interpret documents in English.
  • Creative problem solving and quick learning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with computer-based documentation and data entry.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal safety and operating instructions.
  • Must write, fill out paperwork and track time accurately in English.

Responsibilities

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material needs.
  • Sets stops and guides to specified lengths using scale, rule, or template.
  • Centers materials and aligns layout with die or blade.
  • Operates rotary machines and selects speeds and feeds per operation.
  • Inspects first piece for dimensional tolerances before continuing.
  • Performs basic maintenance and keeps work area clean and safe.

Job description

Job Title: Machine Operator – RotaryDepartment: ManufacturingReports To: Production LeadFLSA Status: NonexemptSUMMARYSets up and operate machines to produce acceptable product according to Mueller’s process.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Accepts materials for each assigned job, review and evaluate prior to beginning.Reads job specifications (job traveler) to determine machine adjustments, material requirements and to fully understand process prior to beginning each operation. Fills out sequence at every operation completed.Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template (center).Centers all materials or aligns layout marks with die or blade.Pulls start lever to activate machine.Obtains first run work piece and inspects part to verify dimensional tolerances before continuing to run.Selects and sets speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish.Follows up with team lead to verify any questions if necessary.Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. Completes first piece and last piece comparisons throughout the run.Performs operation to acceptable quality standards, packs/stacks/marks parts if required and transports finished work pieces.Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machine and checking dies for needed maintenance.Follows all safety policies and procedures.Accurately completes all documentation as required to complete each job.Performs housekeeping duties around work center to avoid slips, trips, and falls.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
