Working alongside an experienced crew, your work directly ensures continuous throughput, strict quality standards, and customer satisfaction. This position offers long-term stability and strong earning potential through structured weekly overtime for a reliable operator who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Setup and operate heavy metal processing machinery—including rotary slitters, cold rolling mills, acid pickling lines, and batch annealing furnaces—within strict safety tolerances.
Execute precise tool setups by arranging slitter arbor knives, knife clearances, separator disks, and tensioning devices according to job specifications.
Load, align, and process steel coils weighing up to 40 tons while maintaining smooth material feed and proper winding tension.
Conduct continuous quality control inspections for gauge thickness, width, edge quality, surface defects, camber, and hardness using precision micrometers and calipers.
Exercise full quality stop-work authority to halt production lines immediately upon detecting non-conforming material or equipment malfunctions.
Maintain accurate daily production records by logging coil data sheets, processing speeds, scrap generation, downtime, and maintenance work orders.
Collaborate closely within a 5-to-7-person crew to ensure continuous line operation and assist in training incoming team members.
Enforce strict shop-floor safety protocols, including mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
1 to 3+ years of machine operating experience in a steel service center, heavy manufacturing plant, or metal processing environment.
Demonstrated background operating heavy equipment such as rotary slitters, cold rolling mills, acid pickling lines, or heat treating furnaces.
Proven proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and coil calculators.
Strong practical math skills with the ability to calculate and convert decimals, fractions, percentages, and measurement units accurately.
Physical capability to lift up to 80lbs, perform heavy manual labor, and stand for extended 10-hour shifts.
Comfort working in a heavy industrial environment subject to elevated temperatures, machinery noise, and chemical processing zones.
