Job summary

Wayfair is seeking an L2 Machine Learning Scientist for its Economics & Pricing team in Boston. You will own end-to-end model design, experimentation, and deployment to inform product-level prices and margins, replacing legacy frameworks and driving margin improvement at scale.

You will collaborate with commercial stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver robust, production-ready ML solutions with strong monitoring and ROI assessment.

Qualifications

• PhD with 0–1 years of experience or MSc/BaSc in STEM with 3+ years in industry.
• Proficiency in Python or another high-level programming language.
• Strong ability to deploy ML solutions into production and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy and refine large-scale ML models and decision systems for pricing.
• Collaborate with commercial stakeholders to translate business problems into analytical solutions.

Job description

Salary Range: $176,000 - $184,250 per year. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the annual base salary only and do not include equity.

About This Role

Our Economics & Pricing team needs an additional L2 Machine Learning Scientist to accelerate development of production ML models that inform product-level prices and margins. This role will own end-to-end model design, experimentation, and deployment for high-impact pricing use cases, replacing legacy binning frameworks and improving contribution margin at scale. The hire is critical to support growing project demand across pricing, promotion, and assortment decisions.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, deploy and refine large-scale machine learning models and algorithmic decision-making systems that solve real-world problems for customers
• Work cross-functionally with commercial stakeholders to understand business problems or opportunities and develop appropriately scoped analytical solutions
• Collaborate closely with various engineering, infrastructure, and ML platform teams to ensure adoption of best-practices in how we build and deploy scalable ML services
• Build robust monitoring, alerting, edge-case handling mechanism
• Identify new opportunities and insights from the data (where can the models be improved? what is the projected ROI of a proposed modification?)
• Be obsessed with the customer and maintain a customer-centric lens in how we frame, approach, and ultimately solve every problem we work on

We Are a Match Because You Have

• Minimum 0-1 years of experience with PhD, or 3+ years of industry experience with MSc/BaSc in STEM -- engineering, computer science, economics, etc.
• Proficiency in Python or one other high-level programming language
• Must have a strong theoretical understanding and solid hands-on expertise deploying machine learning solutions into production.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to synthesize conclusions for non-experts, and overall bias towards simplicity
• Intellectual curiosity and enthusiastic about continuous learning

Nice To Have

• Experience with Python ML ecosystem (numpy, pandas, sklearn, XGBoost, etc.) and/or Apache Spark Ecosystem (Spark SQL, MLlib/Spark ML)
• Familiarity with GCP (or AWS, Azure), ML model development frameworks, ML orchestration tools (Airflow, Kubeflow or MLFlow)
• Experience with Spark, Kubernetes, Docker are nice to have
