About Blue

Blue is an AI-powered knowledge platform that:

• Provides instant access to critical information 50X faster than traditional document management systems
• Reduces legal and procedural mistakes by offering accurate guidance in real-time
• Enables officers to fill out forms directly from their devices at the scene
• Works seamlessly across smartphones, computers, and mobile data terminals
• Helps de-escalate situations through better-informed community interactions
• Continuously updates with the latest department policies and procedures

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize the AI/ML systems powering the Blue platform
• Lead implementation of NLP systems for document analysis, semantic search, and LLM integration
• Build and maintain scalable document processing pipelines for law enforcement materials
• Collaborate with the CTO and founding team to iterate on our core SaaS product
• Take end-to-end ownership of ML development from design to deployment
• Develop solutions for PDF form processing, generation, and automated completion
• Stay current with the latest LLM technologies and best practices
• Provide technical leadership as the team grows

Preferred Technical Skills

The ideal candidate does not need to match every skill listed below. We consider all applicants on a case-by-case basis, and consider all skills that you bring to the table.

AI/ML Expertise

• Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing
• Knowledge of embedding models and BERT-style transformers
• Understanding of semantic search concepts and vector databases
• Familiarity with document analysis and text extraction techniques (OCR)
• Experience fine-tuning, deploying, and integrating language models

Programming & Tools

• Proficiency with modern Python (3.11+) and type annotations
• Experience building RESTful APIs (FastAPI)
• Familiarity with PyTorch or other ML frameworks
• Experience with Docker and containerization
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD workflows
• Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Working knowledge of AWS services
• Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architectures

Development Practices

• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills
• Experience with code quality tools (Black, Ruff, mypy)
• Ability to write clear technical documentation
