Job summary

International Paper in Roanoke, VA is hiring a Machine Helper for an hourly full-time role from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The position involves checking quality, operating backups, feeding boards into machines, and other duties within a manufacturing plant.

Expect responsibilities such as stacking bales, filling top/bottom sheets, mounting dies, maintaining housekeeping, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

The Job You Will Perform

• Check quality
• Operator backup
• Feed board into machines
• Inspection, counting and bundling of items
• Reporting all deficiencies to the operator immediately
• Stacking of neat bales per work order specification
• Properly filling out top sheets per work order specification
• Obtaining and proper use of top and bottom sheets
• Mounting die boards
• Mounting lead edge stripping die
• Housekeeping (organizing and keeping area neat and clean)
• Preventive maintenance

Skills & Physical Demand

Counting and stacking finished product, reading factory order, occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds, more frequent lifting/carrying 1-20 pounds. Requires reaching below waist and knee, and at waist level, kneeling, squatting, and climbing stairs on rare occasions. Frequent hand/wrist work, keyboarding and mousing, power grasping, and pushing/pulling materials. Walking left and right-hand work and simple grasping, constantly standing for extended periods of time.

Work Environment

Employee must wear protective glasses and earplugs when using compressed air. Most work is inside the plant with occasional outside work (<1%). Plant is chilly in winter (above freezing) and hot in summer (non-air conditioned). The plant is generally clean, but manufacturing process generates corrugated dust. No hazardous materials. Environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential functions.
