Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is hiring a Machine Helper to support our packaging manufacturing facility in an onsite environment. The role is entry-level with no degree required, focusing on learning and safe operation of machinery.

Starting pay is $19.04 per hour, probationary period to $19.66 per hour, with a Mon-Thurs shift from 3:30 PM to 1:30 AM. Ideal candidates are willing to learn, can read basic English, and can perform basic math and measurement tasks.

Qualifications

• Learning mindset and ability to learn on the job.
• Basic English reading/writing and comprehension.
• Ability to read manuals or procedure documents.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
• Must wear PPE as required and follow safety rules.
• Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work in an environment with possible extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Safely perform tasks in a fast-paced packaging manufacturing facility.
• Support production, production line, and quality checks.
• Conduct material setup and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Assist machine operators and other team members with setups and jam-ups.
• Ensure tooling for the machine is available and the area is free of debris.

Machine Helper

Starting Pay: $19.04 once qualified / probationary period approximately 90 days $19.66/hr

Shift: Mon-Thurs 330p-130a overtime as needed

Level: Entry-level; experience preferred but not necessary, no degree requirement

Work Environment: Onsite, non-climate-controlled

Primary job duties will include but not limited to safely perform a wide range of tasks supporting the manufacturing areas, production, conducting quality checks, material setup, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to working safe, demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, a strong desire to learn manufacturing processes and operating complex machinery, and have a desire to advance within the company.

• The Manufacturing Helper is normally the third team member assigned to a machine in the Production.
• Being able to support operators on different machinery while assisting different areas as needed.
• Some of the duties of this position include, but are not limited to: ensuring that all tooling for the machine is on hand, assisting the machine operator and assistant operator with setups and jam-ups, ensuring that the area surrounding the machine is kept clean of debris and spills

What You Need To Succeed

• A learning mindset
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English
• Ability to read materials to understand and apply content, such as instruction manuals, procedure manuals or assembly manuals.
• Able to read a tape measure and perform basic math
• Must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other safety gear as required (We will provide any necessary PPE.)
• Ability to stand and walk continuously with occasional kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending, climbing, and grasping.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in an uncontrolled temperature environment (hot or cold)
