The Machine Operator/CNC Operator is responsible for operating manual and CNC machines and performing autonomous maintenance. They ensure equipment performance metrics and quality of parts processed meet company standards. Operators will adhere to standard work, perform set-ups, and meet production requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, which are to be performed accurately, efficiently, within safety and quality standards, and within required time frames. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

  1. Load and unload parts
  2. Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments
  3. Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement
  4. Ensure proper lubrication and cooling during machine operation
  5. Set up and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform machining tasks
  6. Monitor machine operation and control panel displays, respond to faults or alarms
  7. Perform setup activities such as mounting, aligning, and securing tools and fixtures
  8. Assess tooling condition to ensure efficiency and minimize scrap
  9. Set replacement tooling as required per tool life
  10. Measure and set tooling on pre-setter (Zoller)
  11. Follow tooling management and documentation processes
  12. Perform coolant checks, skim tramp oil, and check refract
  13. Troubleshoot basic machining issues, communicate with supervisors, and resolve or escalate problems
  14. Modify cutting programs to account for process variations
  15. Adjust machine feed, speed, and controls as needed
  16. Conduct quality checks, including statistical sampling and process monitoring
  17. Run first piece inspections and obtain Quality Department approval, interpret CMM data, and make adjustments
  18. Follow safety regulations; maintain clean and orderly work areas using 5S standards
  19. Perform other duties as assigned, including extending into other areas as needed
  20. Work overtime as required
  21. Document performance hourly
  22. Complete autonomous maintenance activities as per TPM

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency with gauges and measurement tools

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, schedules, and procedures

  • Intermediate math and computer skills
  • Use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Manual dexterity, handling, reaching, twisting, and repetitive motions
  • Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling occasionally
  • Lifting up to 5 pounds continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally, with assistance for over 35 pounds

MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of machines, tools, repair, and maintenance
  • Use of two-hand controls, pneumatic tools, testing equipment

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to chemicals, temperature changes, moderate noise, vibration, dust, sharp objects, moving parts (guarded)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • One year machining experience preferred
  • Previous tooling experience preferred

Pay Range $18.40-$31.30
