Job summary

Neiman Marcus is seeking a skilled tailor in Chicago to perform alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise. You will assist fitters to ensure fit, alterability, and structural quality across a range of fabrics and garments.

Responsibilities include inspecting work, following supervisor directions, and maintaining sewing equipment. A background in tailoring or industrial sewing is preferred, with strong reading comprehension for instructions.

Qualifications

• Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabrics.

Responsibilities

• Alter constructed garments to meet quality standards set by Neiman Marcus, equal or better than original construction.
• Alter seams vented or unvented, take in shoulder blades, reduce chest, narrow shoulders.
• Rotate sleeves, shorten sleeves.
• Shorten back, shorten collar, and square shoulders.
• Shorten coat, re-line coat, or remake pockets.
• Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
• Self-inspect completed work for quality.
• Complete alterations as assigned by Supervisor/Lead.
• Interpret varied instructions in written or oral form.
• Complete tasks assigned by Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
