Job summary

GM Defense seeks a Chassis/Structures Engineer to lead the structural architecture and mechanical design of lunar transport platforms. You will redesign advanced automotive chassis and EV architectures to withstand rocket launch vibrations, lunar transit loads, and harsh Moon conditions.

You will apply end-to-end development practices, from concept through validation and field support, coordinating with thermal, power, GNC, and software teams to ensure robust, reliable space hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• 5+ years of relevant product engineering experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, defense, aerospace, or closely related industry
• Experience as a Design Release Engineer, technical lead, or equivalent with end-to-end responsibility for a major subsystem
• Proven ability to lead work through concept, design, validation, launch, and field support on complex engineered products
• Experience working in CAD/CAE and PLM environments, including formal change management and part release processes
• Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and issue resolution skills in a fast-paced hardware environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction, manage subsystem risk, and mentor other engineers
• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)

Responsibilities

• Design structural architecture for lunar transport platforms, optimizing chassis integrity and attachment points using 3D CAD tools
• Lead end-to-end development of rover structures and deployment systems
• Interface with thermal, power, GNC, and software teams for cross-functional integration
• Define and execute validation tests for actuators, mobility geartrains, and structural load limits
• Adapt automotive concepts to one-sixth Earth gravity and vacuum conditions
• Bridge high-volume production standards with lightweight aerospace materials
