Job summary

Les Schwab Tire Centers is seeking a skilled mechanic to monitor, diagnose, and repair heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, forklifts, and related equipment at one of our Oregon locations. Responsibilities include maintenance, tire replacement, electrical work, welding, and test drives to ensure safe operations.

The role requires 1 year of mechanical experience or relevant trade-school training, a valid license, and ability to obtain DOT sign-off and forklift certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience as mechanic or trade school with autos or heavy duty vehicles
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to meet DOT 3.96 sign-off on repairs and perform DOT inspections within 12 months of hire
• Ability to acquire and maintain forklift certification
• Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, forklifts, dollies and company vehicles
• Perform preventative maintenance and test drive equipment during repair
• Lube, oil changes and general fluid maintenance
• Service air brake systems and electrical wiring
• Replace tires and perform welding/fabrication as needed
• Consult manuals and schematics during repairs

Job Description:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor, inspect, and diagnose heavy duty trucks, trailers, forklifts, dollies, company passenger vehicles, and material handling equipment and perform preventative maintenance. Test drive equipment during the diagnose and repair process.

• Lube, oil changes and general fluid
• Air brake systems
• Electrical wiring repair
• Replace tires
• Welding and fabrication
• Utilize equipment manuals and schematics in the repair and maintenance of equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED

Educational/Experience Requirements: 1 year experience as mechanic and/or trade school with autos or heavy duty vehicles and/or demonstrated knowledge of general mechanics

• Valid driver’s license
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical aptitude and diagnosis skills
• Ability to meet requirements of DOT 3.96 to sign-off on repairs and perform DOT inspections within 12 months of hire
• Ability to acquire and maintain forklift certification
• Basic computer skills
