Math tutoring involves one‑on‑one and/or group tutoring with students in Waterford Lower School, grades K–V. Tutoring sessions usually occur two to three times per week. Sessions are approximately 45–60 minutes, and take place during school, before school and after school hours Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities
- Ability to teach mathematical strategies to support students’ required math units and materials at students’ instructional level.
- Enjoy math and be able to communicate mathematical ideas and concepts in ways that are developmentally appropriate for 8 to 11‑year‑old students.
- Develop and follow daily lesson plans that focus on individual student needs. Plans include building foundational skills outlined by student evaluation.
- Communicate with students’ parents and current teachers. Tutors must write two reports each term: a brief midterm report to establish goals and a comprehensive end‑of‑term report shared with parents, homeroom teachers, and lower school head.
- Maintain Google Drive folders for all students and become proficient in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar.
- Maintain a Waterford email and check it weekly for notes from Waterford Lower School head and more often for notes from reading director.
- Attend weekly tutor meetings.
- Receive training in the fall from the math director.
