Job summary

Good Shepherd Health Care is seeking an Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct care for postpartum mothers and newborns, under RN or physician supervision. You will perform vital signs, assessments, medication administration, and family education in a family-centered model.

The role includes potential Surgical Scrub Technician duties following competency validation, with emphasis on sterile technique and instrument handling during obstetrical procedures.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• Successful completion of facility-approved Surgical Technician training and competency validation within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to postpartum patients under RN supervision.
• Obtain and document maternal vital signs and focused nursing observations.
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition promptly.
• Perform postpartum assessments within the LPN scope (fundal, lochia, incision, pain, urinary output, edema).
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered and permitted by Oregon law.
• Assist with ambulation, hygiene, comfort, and activities of daily living.
• Reinforce education on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, newborn care, safe sleep, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical record documentation.
• Assist during postpartum emergencies and obstetrical events.
• Assist with routine newborn care under supervision of RN.
• Obtain newborn vital signs, weights, measurements, and assessments.
• Assist with infant feeding and parent education.
• Perform newborn bathing and routine care.
• Complete newborn screenings and report abnormal findings.
• Promote infant security and safe sleep practices.
• Assist with neonatal stabilization until advanced personnel arrive.
• Prepare operating room and sterile field for procedures.
• Pass instruments to surgeon and maintain sterile technique.
