LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, physician, or other authorized healthcare provider. The LPN is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient nursing care while following established hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

The LPN works collaboratively with nurses, providers, nursing assistants, and other members of the healthcare team to promote positive patient outcomes and ensure continuity of care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide direct nursing care to patients according to established standards, policies, and procedures.

Obtain and document vital signs, patient information, and other clinical data.

Administer medications and treatments as ordered and within the scope of LPN practice.

Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly report significant findings to the appropriate nurse or provider.

Assist with patient assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of the patient's plan of care.

Perform treatments, procedures, and other nursing interventions within the scope of practice.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Assist with activities of daily living and provide appropriate patient comfort and support.

Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatments, procedures, and other aspects of care as directed.

Assist physicians and registered nurses with examinations, procedures, and treatments.

Collect specimens and perform or assist with diagnostic testing as appropriate.

Maintain infection prevention and control practices in accordance with hospital policies.

Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's condition or clinical status.

Participate in patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and members of the healthcare team.

Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulations.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.

Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and respect in all interactions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.

Licensure

Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Louisiana.

Current BLS certification or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.

Experience

Previous healthcare or nursing experience preferred.

Experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.

Knowledge of practical nursing principles, procedures, and standards of care.

Ability to provide safe and effective patient care within the LPN scope of practice.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns appropriately.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Ability to lift, move, and reposition patients with appropriate assistance and equipment.

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull as required to provide patient care.

Ability to respond quickly to patient needs and emergency situations.

Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or varying shifts based on department needs.
