Job summary

Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, LA, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Medical-Surgical team. You will provide direct patient care under supervision, assist with assessments, administer medications, monitor vitals, and document care in the EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments within the scope of LPN practice and hospital policy.
  • Monitor vital signs, collect specimens, and perform routine nursing procedures.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, mobility, hygiene, and comfort measures.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.
  • Document patient care, observations, and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Reinforce patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.
  • Follow infection prevention practices and hospital safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

WHAT TO EXPECT
  • A fast-paced inpatient Medical-Surgical environment caring for patients with a variety of medical conditions and post-operative needs.
  • Twelve-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules based on departmental needs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and repositioning patients throughout the shift.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
  • Ability to safely lift and reposition patients using proper body mechanics and patient handling equipment.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and any applicable health screenings.
