Job summary

Morehouse General Hospital is seeking a compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Medical-Surgical unit. You will provide direct patient care under supervision, monitor patients, administer medications, and document findings in the EMR.

The role requires an active Louisiana LPN license, a completed Practical Nursing program, and a current BLS certification. 12-hour shifts, fast-paced environment, and collaborative care with RN and physicians are expected.

Qualifications

• LPN license in Louisiana is required.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a compassionate and dependable Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Medical-Surgical team. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, organized, and committed to delivering high-quality nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or provider. • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or provider.
• Assist with patient assessments and report changes in condition promptly.
• Administer medications and treatments within the scope of LPN practice and hospital policy.
• Monitor vital signs, collect specimens, and perform routine nursing procedures.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, mobility, hygiene, and comfort measures.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.
• Document patient care, observations, and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Reinforce patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with Registered Nurses, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.
• Follow infection prevention practices and hospital safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

• Current, unrestricted Louisiana Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
• Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Previous Medical-Surgical or acute care experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and patient care skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• A fast-paced inpatient Medical-Surgical environment caring for patients with a variety of medical conditions and post-operative needs.
• Twelve-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules based on departmental needs.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and repositioning patients throughout the shift.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
• Ability to safely lift and reposition patients using proper body mechanics and patient handling equipment.
• Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and any applicable health screenings.
