Job summary

Quality Correctional Care (QCC) seeks licensed practical or registered nurses to join our team at Hancock County Jail in Indiana. The role involves 6 PM to 6 AM shifts, one shift per week, providing comprehensive nursing care to incarcerated patients and ensuring adherence to medical standards. CPR certification and ability to handle physically demanding tasks are required.

Qualifications

• Valid LPN or RN licensure.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Able to stand for extended periods.
• Able to push, pull, reach, and bend frequently.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications.
• Perform medical intakes and assess fitness for incarceration.
• Respond to sick calls and follow up with the medical provider.
• Check and/or change medical dressings as required.
• Perform 14-day physicals.
• Manage chronic care.
• Provide patient education on health concerns.
• Respond to medical emergencies with life-saving measures and direction.
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacology and medication costs.
• Provide guidance to Medically Trained Personnel as needed.
• Comply with all laws and regulations.

Nursing Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients by providing the following:
  • Administer medications
  • Perform medical intakes and assess if patient is fit for incarceration, as needed
  • Respond to sick call requests and follow up with the medical provider when needed
  • Check and/or change medical dressings as required by the medical provider
  • Performing 14-day physicals
  • Managing chronic care
  • Providing patient education on health concerns
  • Responding to medical emergencies
    • Be capable of performing life saving measures and ability to take charge and give direction in an emergency
  • Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including but not limited to drug reaction/overdose, formulary/non-formulary medications, and knowledge of medication costs
  • Be able to provide insight and direction to Medically Trained Personnel, as needed
  • Comply with all current and future state, federal, and local laws and regulations

Shift Opening(s):

• 6 PM to 6 AM, one shift per week
