Job summary

OU Health is seeking a part-time LPN for the South OKC Freestanding Emergency Department mid shift. You will perform assessments, administer medications, and support physicians under supervision in a fast-paced ED.

The ideal candidate holds an OK LPN license (or multi-state), BLS, and a HS diploma or GED, with NCLEX-PN requirements completed. Prior ER experience is not required, and opportunities for growth are available within OU Health.

Qualifications

• Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
• Current BLS issued by the American Heart Association on hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with nursing assessment through data collection, observation and vital signs.
• Provide care according to an established nursing plan.

• Administer medications by various routes as ordered.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during exams.
• May function as Surgical Tech in operating room if position open.

General Summary

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

• Assists with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provide s care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observe s changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provide s routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement , and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Initiates and monitor s oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol .
• Suctions and clean s tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal , and topical medications.
• Prepare s patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire .
• Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License ( eNLC ) required .

Knowledge /Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
• Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
