UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for full-time day shift to provide nursing care to patients following the nursing process and hospital standards. The role includes patient education, advocacy, data collection, and timely reporting to RNs to ensure quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program, currently licensed as an LPN in Alabama, with BLS certification; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on the unit.

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent.
• Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.

• Orient patients and families to the surrounding environment and advocate for the patient.
• Collect assessment data and notify the RN of potential problems.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and document delivery of care.

• Meet educational needs and serve as a role model to other patient care team members.

Position Overview

Pay range: $22.90 - $37.25 / hour

Sign-on bonus: $5,000 new hire sign-on bonus may be available (full-time only)

Shift: full-time AM

Schedules: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Job Description

Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient’s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient’s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
