Job summary

UAB Medicine's Behavioral Health team is recruiting an LPN to support geriatric psychiatry patients on the day shift at UAB St. Vincent's East.

Under RN/physician supervision, you will provide direct patient care and contribute to safe medication administration. Responsibilities include patient assessments, administering medications, performing labs and treatments, and educating patients and families about discharge plans and self-care.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an LPN by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
• Administer medications and observe for adverse reactions.
• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.

Our Behavioral Health services at UAB St. Vincent’s East include 80 beds for adult and geriatric patients with acute and chronic mental health needs. Our dedicated team-based care model provides individualized, compassionate care. We provide a safe and structured environment focused on stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness.

Job Description

Provide care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, functioning within scope of license.

• Contribute to the assessment of patients and assure the well-being of patients.


• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.


• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.


• Educate patients/families about disease treatment plan including self care post discharge, holistic health needs, available resources and follow up care.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.


• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent required.
