Job summary

CHKD is seeking an LPN to support donor intake for the Human Milk Bank. The role coordinates donor screening, facilitates intake of donor human milk, and maintains donor records under department leadership.

The position requires Virginia LPN licensure and a nursing degree or diploma, with preference for lactation experience and motivational interviewing skills. Some travel for outreach may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Current Virginia state license as an LPN.
  • Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in maternity, newborn, or lactation care preferred.
  • Motivational interviewing and patient screening experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn Guidelines for Human Milk Banking as developed by the HMBA North America.

  • The LPN - Intake Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations related to donor intake of the Human Milk Bank. Responsibilities include but are not limited to coordinating and evaluating the screening of milk donors based on national requirements, facilitating intake of donor human milk, maintaining database, facilitating dispensation of outpatient donor human milk, and community outreach to encourage continued human milk donations. Reports to department leadership.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with leadership team to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the donor intake process.
  • Facilitates communication between milk bank, donors, and medical practices.
  • Accurately reviews, updates, and maintains thorough donor records from initial intake through retirement.
  • Assigns and documents donor deferrals with RN approval.
  • Aides in the processing of outpatient requests.
  • Serves as a resource for community.
  • Works with leadership to market Milk Bank at community events.
  • Assists in the development of communication strategies for marketing of the Human Milk Bank.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current Virginia state license as a Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) holding a valid Compact State license required.
  • Food Handler Certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Required Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree in nursing / Diploma in Nursing required.
  • Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in maternity, newborn, or lactation related patient care preferred.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing, patient screening, and education preferred.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Requires ability to learn Guidelines for Human Milk Banking as developed by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America.
  • Possesses excellent leadership, written and oral communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Human biological secretions (expressed human milk) and intermittent exposure to extreme cold (-30C) freezers. Moderately adverse working conditions due to performance of certain milk bank activities. Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Traveling for exhibiting and marketing.
