Qualifications

• Graduate from a state-approved school of practical nursing.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a practical nurse in Massachusetts.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

• Functions within a designated clinical team.
• Obtains and documents patient information and intervenes within scope of practice.
• Provides standard patient education under an established plan of care.
• Obtains vital signs and other department-based testing.
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments as directed.
• Starts and monitors intravenous infusions and alerts clinicians as needed.
• Documents all patient care activities in the electronic medical record.
• Explains procedures to patients to facilitate understanding.
• Supports clinicians during examinations and procedures.
• Communicates with patients or family regarding test results or follow-up plans.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and participates in process improvements.
